First ever ‘Child Friendly Constituency’ initiative launched in Odisha
22 December, 2015 The first ever effort to make a political constituency ‘child friendly,’ was launched here today by the Khandapara MLA, Anubhav Pattnaik.The launch saw the presence of over 300 participants that included the District Collector, Nayagarh, Hemanta Kumar Padhi and Chief, UNICEF Odisha,Yumi Baeas well as Block Development Officers from Khandapara and Bhapur blocks, line department officials from Nayagarh Collectorate, elected representatives of Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats from Khandapara constituency,CSOs and media. The initiative that is in close collaboration with the District Administration is supported by UNICEF through its partner NGO, Youth for Social Development.
Child Friendly Constituency is an initiative that allows communities and children within the constituency to proactively engage with their elected representatives and service providers on issues that concern them.
The initiative aims at creating a platform for elected representatives for more structured engagement on programme implementation with district administration and service providers and at the same time enables them to connect with theirvoters on issue that affect the lives of children and their families.In this process the elected representatives cutting across the political structures under the leadership of the elected Member of Legislative Assembly, collectively take responsibility to discuss, design, guide and monitor programme implementation with active involvement of multiple stakeholders including children in a phased manner.It advocates for optimum utilization of existing resources allocated from State as well as Centre under various schemes and programs.
